  Static Var Generator (SVG),also known as static synchronous compensator (STATCOM),is a dynamic reactive power compensation device based on high-power inverters.It uses a high-power threephase voltagetype inverter asits core,andits output voltage is connected to the system through a reactance tomaintain thesame frequency and phase with the system side voltage.The nature ofthe outputpoweris determined by adjustingthe relationship between itsoutput voltage amplitude and the system voltage amplitude.When its amplitude is greater than the system sidevoltage amplitude,capacitivereactive poweris output,and when it isles than the system side voltage amplitude,inductive reactive power is output.This device is curently the most advanced third-generation voltage stabilzation and reactive power compensation controler,epresenting the latest development direction of flexible ACtansmissiontechnology.
  In recent yers,dynamic reactive power compensation and harmonic governance devicesare used in the powergid and power users more and more widely.It isused to improve the voltage stability of the power grid and power quaity of users and achieve the purpose of saving power.SVG is used in thetransmision grid,which can improve the stability of the power system,increase the system damping and suppress the system oscilation,thus greatlyimproving the voltage transmision capacity.With therapid development of cross-regional power grid construction in China,the problems of reactive powerand dynamic voltage stability of power system are increasingly prominent,now the most effective way s the installaton of high voltage and large capacitySVG.
  SVG is used for the distribution network (also known as DSTATCOM),which can cary out rapid and effective dynamic reative power compensation for thefluctuating load,and compensate for the voltage fluctuation and ficke,load imbalance,power factor and harmonics,whil effectively improving the powerqualiy,significant energy saving and consumption reduction benefits can be achieved.For example,when SVG is used for electric arcfurnace and calciumcarbide furnacefor load compensation,the average powerconsumption canoften be reduced by4%-159%,and the economic benefits areverysigificant.
